March 2010 NEWSLETTER

Calicaro is Moving to Napa!

In my wildest imagination, I did not think that after our third vintage we would be making wine in Napa Valley.

But here we are, moving in March from the repurposed winery/warehouse in the gritty Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco to the Silverado Trail Wine Studio just north of the City of Napa. Much of what we do will remain the same. As in San Francisco, we will share the winery with a lot of other boutique winemakers.

Here is what is so great about this move:

•Calicaro will be part of an onsite full time tasting room so we can accommodate visitors and sell wine directly at the tasting room. Come visit us at 3105 Silverado Trail, Napa.

•We are surrounded by vineyards. In addition to the wine tastings and winery tours, we'll be able to offer vineyard tours and make viticulture a part of the learning experience.

•We'll be very easy to find, with frontage directly on the Silverado Trail and dozens of other well known wineries within a few miles.

•The winery was built as a true working winery, and will be able to accommodate our needs perfectly. No one will confuse it with some of the lavish Napa wineries, but that wouldn't be our style anyway. We'd rather wow with the wine than with the building.

The tasting room should be up and running very soon.

Let us know if you are planning a visit and we'll give a "heads up" to the tasting room staff and maybe see you there.

Wine Special

We're continuing to run our Winter Doldrums Special on the '08 Calicaro Poinsett Pinot Noir from La Encantada Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills. 10% off on 6+ bottles, shipping included. That works out to $40.50/btl. or $243/6 btls. plus tax. Only 25 cases made.

Video of Dave Ball and Chris Nelson Barrel Tasting at the Winery

Chris and I talk about barrel tasting all four of our Pinot Noirs and our 08 and 09 Cabernet Sauvignons. Check it out here:http://www.facebook.com/pages/Calicaro-Wine/151247110484?ref=mf#!/video/video.php?v=1093405031743&ref=mf

Good Buzz

After all of the nice press on Calicaro, we received a rush of year end orders and have been getting gratifying customer feedback ever since. Some folks even placed immediate second and third orders after tasting the wine.

So here is what people have said: "Absolutely the best Pinot Noir I ever tasted." "Love your wine."
"Ordered all three wines and loved them all."
"Served them at Thanksgiving and they were a big
hit."
"They were a Christmas gift to my son's new
mother and father-in-law in New York
City. They are big Italian wine fans but loved these
wines and even decided to hold back one bottle
from Christmas dinner to enjoy later, between just
the two of them."
"I was going to give some of the '07 Poinsett as
Christmas presents and my wife said, 'Are you
kidding me? This wine is like liquid gold - we're
keeping this for ourselves!'"
I explained to the last customer that we had
finished bottling the '08 Poinsett and he
immediately ordered a case!
